Sequence Playback trim handles

These requests are related and it might be good to consider them as this feature gets designed:

Can you please describe in additional detail what you'd like to see for this? What workflow problem are you trying to solve?
Patrick Wolf
Mike Jennings: In VFX a shot/version might have a 100 frames but the first and last 9 frames (ie 1-10 and 91-100) are not being used in the edit. So when a clip is being played back its best to not include those handles to see the clip as its indented in the final product.
Mike Jennings
Patrick Wolf: OK, that makes sense. I'll put it another way to see if I understand correctly: You'd like to set in and out points on the clips so that you're not seeing the extraneous material (the handles) during sequence playback.
Question: would you want a project- or review-level control to automatically assume handles of
n
frames? Is it consistent per clip?Patrick Wolf
Mike Jennings: handles come into play on multiple levels within the hierarchy of project > shot > version
- on a the project level a show uses in general consistent head/tail handles (ie 8 frames)
- then as the cut evolves the handles per shot can change
- then a shot has versions before the handles changed and after the handles changed so its really
So in summary we got:
- Default handles on the project level
- Adjusted handles on a version level
Ideally SynkSketch would read the Version.First/LastFrame from Shotgrid as it loads in the playlist.
And only if there is no value in those fields let the user playback the full clip or with the default project handles.
This feature would help our show a lot right now! let me know if there is a way to expedite it (and how to reach out)
Here the SG Cut data model schema with the Version.First/LastFrame fields

On the back of Patricks note, it'd be really useful if the cut range could be pulled from the Smart Fields @ Shot level (cut in and out). We'd love a button to flip between the assigned cut range(without handles) and working range(with handles).
Secondly it'd be great if we could sync a batch of versions and play back to back at cut length rather than the working range to make a mini edit. Best,

Hey Yoshi, that's right these are held at shot level under "Smart Fields" smarts field also link to playback in RV so you can integrate with importing shot via an EDL with the right cut range which is why we use these. Note the smart fields need to be switched on in the site preferences as they don't come automatically switched on with OOTB SG. Here's a little screen shot of where to find them when they are. Best,

just wanting to mention that those Smart Fields are being phased out by SG (before SyncSketch builds a solution around them)
"those “Raw” fields are actually underlying cut fields which used to drive what were referred to as “Smart Cut” fields which are on the deprecation block.... Once deprecated, we’ll stop populating those older fields (no timeline on that yet)."
